The 10th Anniversary Edition
For the past year I have been working on a new edition of The North Star to be published by Candlewick Press. A few folks who have heard wonder why I would do a completely new edition — fearing perhaps that I will change the story. The story will be the almost identical. For me, redoing the art is like visiting an old friend. I am living in the world of the North Star boy again. I am wading through the swamp with him once more and am sharing his rediscovery of the stars gently guiding him… and me. The book will be ready for the printer by March, but will be released in early 2009. Until then, enjoy the current edition - the book and the online versions.

Peter,
I really look forward to seeing the 10th Annivesary edition of The North Star. I’m glad that the story will remain relatively unchanged - though I’m kind of excited to see whatever small changes you have made. It will be like re-discovering The North Star all over again! Of course, being a huge, never-ending fan of your art - I can hardly wait to see the new art you’re creating for the new edition.
Wishing you lots of luck as you journey through the process!

I can’t way until the new book is rolled out. I have to admit I am a little nervous that one of my all-time favorite pictures from the book (or actually any book) will be changed (the boy resting against the tree with the beautiful sky behind him). But I am sure that the new art will be just as fantastic…..and magical.

No worries. I will tenderly crafting this one… Thanks for your warm words though about the first edition. It is near and dear to my heart. I am excited about the reach Candlewick, Walker and foreign rights partners will have. The story will reach many more people and when it does… they can come find this site and be encouraged to keep the “North Star” thinking flowing. Thanks to everyone who takes time to share their own thoughts and ideas.
